THE ELECTION TREE

This tree is the site of the first election that formed Tulare County.  The election tree stands on the north bank of the Kaweah River in the Venice Hills area.  The monument that is under the tree reads:

“ELECTION HELD
UNDER THIS TREE
 ON JULY 10^th, 1852
A PARTY UNDER COMMAND
OF MAJOR SAVAGE
HELD THE ELECTION
BY WHICH
TULARE COUNTY
WAS ORGANIZED”
